History of kids or Hope vzw
February - May 2009: Project `Time out
Initiators: Alice Leclef and Sanne Lauwers
Reason: development project in framework of training Bachelor physical education on the Artesis college Antwerp
Place: To Baden Powell Memorial Academy, Luzira, Uganda
Contents: Time-out was a development project where on one hand was offered a basic French introduction to the students and on the other hand sport lessons were given, where was worked toward a large show with the school.
During the sport lessons several (new) sports were offered, where teamspirit, respect, fair play, pleasure perception and `being child’ were at issue. During the large show at the end, especially the process, the progress and the individual child were central. With this show some funds were also collected for the school.

Reason: development project in framework of training Bachelor lower education on the Artesis college Antwerp
Place: To Baden Powell Memorial Academy, Luzira, Uganda
Contents: The project existed from 4 parts. The first part was the group work that was introduced in the school, the second part were the social skills which were presented by means of the diagram of animals (several animals which each have their own characteristics). The third part of the project existed from making a guide for the teachers of the school and the last part of the project was a cooperation and exchange with a Belgian school, the Palette, established in Berchem.
During the whole project they worked towards a large show at the end of the period in which all processed elements of the project were presented.

July - august 2010: Buildings for BPMA
Initiator: Jo CretenReason: Visit to Baden Powell Memorial Academy the school and to an Ugandan student organisation
Place: To Baden Powell Memorial Academy, Luzira and Arise Africa, Port Bell, Uganda
Contents: In august 2007 Jo was part of a group of 10 Belgian Scouts who visited Uganda. That is when he first visited Baden Powell Memorial Academy in Luzira, Uganda. He met Peniel Rwendeire, who became our contactperson for all our projects. From that day on Jo also supported, with Peniel’s help, the school, the orphanage of the school and the Kids Of Hope Choir, witch is the school choir.
After the beginning of the organisation Kids of Hope vzw, Jo descided to go back to Uganda to visit the school again. The goals of his visit were to media train a few Ugandan students and to work as a contactperson for Kids Of Hope vzw.
September 2010: Establishment of ‘Kids Of Hope international’ organisation
Initiators: Alice Leclef and Stéphane LeclefReason: A continuation to give to the projects which were already present in the school Baden Powell Memorial Academy.

Aim: The association has as an goal to provide support, infrastructure and resources to schools for orphan children in Africa, and in particular Baden Powell Memorial Academy established at Luzira, Uganda. The association has also the aim to provide support at the continued studies of students originating from these schools.
